So, I went a little bit over on fat today, but only by 6.5 grams so it's not a big deal at all. I had two walks today and the first one was rough. My blood pressure makes me extremely sensitive to sunlight (and makes me have to pee all the freakin' time!), so I get lightheaded and overheated easily. Hopefully when I shed a lot of this weight, my blood pressure will get better and I won't need to take the meds anymore. That is definitely something to look forward to.
I had a truly delicious brunch (I slept in too late for breakfast, but my summer is almost over!) today: An egg, cheese and fried bologna bagel (onion flavor) sandwich:
One XL egg fried with spray canola oil - 74 calories, 5 g/fat, 0.4 g/carbs.
One slice of bologna fried with spray oil - 150 calories, 12 g/fat, 2 g/carbs.
One slice of Kraft American cheese - 60 calories, 4.5 g/fat, 1 g/carbs.
One onion flavored bagel (toasted in toaster) - 200 calories, 1.5 g/fat, 38 g/carbs.
One serving of mayonaise - 90 calories, 10 g/fat, 0 g/carbs.
That's a total of 574 calories, 33 g/fat, 41.4 g/carbs.
I hate to rain on your parade, and I'm super proud you're doing this, but I'm gonna be honest. I don't like this brunch. At all. Too much processed stuff, fat and bad carbs going on. Bologna, american cheese, white bread, mayo... It just sounds completely unhealthy and counterproductive to me. Regardless of the portion size.
ReplyDeleteIt's 600 calories in one sitting too...Jesus! go for half that. Eat 6-7 times a day.
Try egg whites, oatmeal, fruit and stuff like that for breakfast. Get some protein powder. I know that your goals are different than mine but that stuff works man.
Look, this is something that I enjoyed eating before dieting, and since I had to miss a meal I saw an opportunity to have it. My schedule and Thomas' meal requirements (three meals per day plus one evening snack) do not allow for 6-7 small meals per day. I agree with you - this is not particularly healthy on its own, but I didn't go over on any of my daily requirements. I am not trying to starve myself. I can have up to 1,860 calories per day and I have been under (in most cases, by several hundred calories) every day since I started (the only exception being the first day). I think my biggest mistake was skipping a meal, and that meal being breakfast. But, it was the middle of the day, I was very hungry, I needed to eat something significant. And then I went walking. I simply don't eat like this every day and I don't think it is a big deal.
ReplyDeleteJust because her regiment doesn't fit what you're doing to lose weight, doesn't make one way better than the other. Sure she could be making better food choices, but you know nothing about her lifestyle or her results. Every medical professional I've ever talked to all use the same word, MODERATION. It was one sandwich, when at one point it could have been two. At the end of the day Lacy was still 400 calories under her goal. This blog was supposed to be a way for Lacy to communicate with her friends about what is essentially a lifestyle change, not just a diet. She is taking steps to get healthier and just because it doesn't jive with what you think, it doesn't make it wrong. Being all holier-than-thou and making someone feel bad is. As a friend you should be encouraging, not discouraging her efforts. You may have the resources and the time to eat healthier and more frequently, but with what we have she is doing a damn fine job. A true friend would be more sympathetic. A true friend will be honest without being condescending. A true friend won't "rain on your parade", but offer you an umbrella when someone else does.
ReplyDeleteVery well said Thomas. I for one am extremely proud of you Lacy. It takes alot to decided to be healthier, and stick to it.
ReplyDeleteand to Josh: who are you to judge in any capacity? i dont remember anyone asking you what your opinion was on this subject, and because of that, maybe you should just be quiet.
Keep up the good work Lacy. Dont let anyone tell you you arent doing it right. there is no 'right' or 'wrong'. there is only what works for you.
*opens the umbrella for Lacy*

If you don't get to eat some things you really love, you will grow resentful and become more likely to give up on the whole program. When I did Weight Watchers, they said if you really want a Krispy Kreme or a McDonalds burger, it's better to have that once a week and build it into your food plan by eating healthier stuff the rest of the time. I think that makes good sense. If you love fried baloney, there's no reason why you shouldn't get to eat it now and then.
ReplyDeleteum are you supposed to be helpful Josh?? Because you kinda sound like a dick... you're on the right track Lacy! Keep it up! FTS!! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh man, I think I'm gonna have to try that sandwich
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of sandwiches, me and Thomas are gonna go to your grandparents' restaurant and eat some Cuban sandwiches soon! I have been meaning to go there forever and never have... so he's going to make me.
